Police on Friday arrested four miscreants for allegedly looting a gold trader in November last year by posing as police officers.They were identified as Pravat Mahakud, Debendranath Sahu, Deepak Pandit and Sanjay Sahu.

CUTTACK: Police on Friday arrested four miscreants for allegedly looting a gold trader in November last year by posing as police officers. They were identified as Pravat Mahakud, Debendranath Sahu, Deepak Pandit and Sanjay Sahu. Around Rs 25.48 lakh cash and gold ornaments, weighing 406 grams, were seized from them, said DCP (Cuttack) Sanjeev Arora.

Police said the gang looted a West Bengal-based gold wholesaler Swarup Parmanik,who had come to Cuttack to sell ornaments to jewellery shops. The loot took place on November 28 while he was on his way to board a Kolkata-bound bus from Badambadi bus terminus accompained by a friend on a motorcycle. He was carrying over Rs 32 lakh. Pravat and Sanjay in police uniform intercepted the motorcycle. They accused Parmanik of selling smuggled gold ornaments and asked him to come with them to the nearby police station. The miscreants took him to an abandoned place in Sikharpur and looted him at gun point. Police said Pravat masterminded the crime after Deepak gave him information about Parmanik's arrival in the city, Sanjay and Debendranath helped him in executing the crime.
