COIMBATORE: An 18-year-old Theni native, who was riding pillion on his colleague’s

motorcycle

, was killed in an accident at Podithimmampalayam on Thursday morning.


The deceased was identified as P Premkumar of Vadakarai in Periyakulam in Theni district. His friend A Muthumani, 22, of Thenkarai in Periyakulam, who was riding the two-wheeler, has suffered minor injuries.

The duo was working in JB Autocast at Kuppepalayam and were staying in a rented room in the same locality, police source said. “They were on the way to a movie theatre. Muthumani was riding the motorcycle. When they reached Podithimmampalayam, an empty tipper truck rammed the motorcycle. Both of them were thrown off. Premkumar came under the wheels of the truck, which ran over his head. He died on the spot.,” a police officer said.

Annur police sub-inspector Senthilkumar sent the body to the

Coimbatore Medical College

and Hospital (CMCH) for postmortem. The body was later handed over to the family.

Based on Muthumani’s complaint, Annur police have registered a case against truck driver Murugan, 60, of Periyanaickenpalayam.
