Youth killed as truck hits motorcycle
Tirupur: A 20-year-old youth was killed after a truck hit his motorcycle near Thirumuruganpoondi on the outskirts of the city on Saturday night.
The Thirumuruganpoondi police identified the deceased as N Yogeshwaran, of Cheyyur. He was employed with an automobile spare parts shop in Avinashi. According to a police officer, Yogeshwaran was staying with his grandmother in the city.
The incident took place when he was returning to his grandmother’s house after work around 11pm on Saturday. “He was riding his motorcycle on Avinashi-Tirupur road when the truck hit his vehicle from behind. Yogeshwaran was thrown off the bike and succumbed to his severe head injuries on the spot,” the officer said.
The Thirumuruganpoondi police have registered the case. The body was handed over to his family after conducting postmortem in Tirupur government hospital.
In another accident, a 32-year-old man was killed after the car he was travelling in rammed a truck from behind at Chengapalli on Kochi-Salem national highway on Sunday afternoon. The deceased was identified as S Palani, of Tiruvannamalai.
The incident took place when he, along with his friend Selvaraj, 34, was returning home after visiting Coimbatore. Selvaraj was at the wheel. The Uthukuli police have registered a case.
