Work commences for 20th Rose Show at GRG in Ooty
Udhagamandalam: With wintry conditions showing signs of withdrawal in the Nilgiris, preparations have commenced in full swing at the Government Rose Garden (GRG) in Ooty, for the summer tourist season.
On Monday, Nilgiris collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru inaugurated the exercise of pruning rose plants, in preparation for the 20th Rose Show, which will be held in May. The pruned rose bushes will start blooming in about 45 days.
Sibila Mary, joint director of horticulture said, "A total of 2.5 flower saplings will be planted in the garden to get it ready for the Rose Show. The garden will be in full bloom in the first week of April."
With about 32,000 rose plants of 4,201 varieties, the GRG has always been a crowd puller, with over 10 lakh people visiting last year.
