Woman snatches Coimbatore shop owner’s gold chain, arrested

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore city police arrested a 36-year-old woman for snatching the got chain of a woman shop owner at Rathinapuri on Friday evening. The arrested woman has been identified as S Thavamani alias Deivanathi of Attukulam village near Melur in Madurai district.
Thavamani visited a gift shop in the seventh street extension at Rathinapuri on the pretext of buying a gift item.She selected a gift and asked the shop owner, C Selvarani, 57, to wrap it. While Selvarani was wrapping it, Thavamani sprayed an insecticide on her face and snatched her 7.25 sovereigns of gold chain.
Selvarani raised an alarm, and the neighbours rushed to the spot. They chased the chain-snatcher and caught her. She was handed over to the Rathinapuri police who arrested her and seized the snatched chain from her.
