Woman murders 2 kids, sets herself on fire

TIRUPUR: A 35-year-old woman

killed

her two children before setting herself on fire near Mangalam here on Friday.


S Sivaranjani of Poomalur had married C Senthil a decade ago, police sources said. “Senthil is a DMK functionary and was the former president of Poomalur panchayat. The couple had two children Sri Harshanth, 7 and eight-month-old Sri Harshita,” a police officer said.

“The family was staying with Senthil’s parents and his brother’s family. On Friday morning, Sivaranjani carried the sleeping children and threw them into a 15ft deep water tank and set herself on fire. She also jumped into the 15-ft sump. Hospital. Sivaranjani has sustained 100% burn injuries,” a police officer said.

Mangalam police have booked a case under Section 302 of IPC against Sivaranjani for murdering the children and also under section 309 of IPC for attempting to commit suicide.

Meanwhile, the children’s bodies were handed over to the family after post mortem.
