KRISHNAGIRI: A woman died and more than 20 people suffered serious injuries after a private bus overturned near Rayakottai in Krishnagiri district on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as K Rani, 60, of Rayakottai.
The private bus was going from Denkanikottai to Krishnagiri via Kelamangalam with more than 50 passengers on board. The driver, whose identity was not known, lost control of the bus near Kelamangalam. “The vehicle overturned on the road. The woman died on the spot,” said Rayakottai police inspector M Periyasamy.
Local people rescued more than 20 injured passengers and sent them in ambulances to Hosur and Krishnagiri govt hospitals.
The driver fled the spot immediately after the accident.
The bus was removed using a crane. The accident disrupted traffic on the Denkanikottai - Kelamangalam - Krishnagiri road. Police cleared the bus from the area and restored traffic after three hours.
The Rayakottai police registered a case.
