Woman among three arrested for murdering youth in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: The Karamadai police in Coimbatore district arrested three people, including a woman, on Wednesday for murdering a 23-year-old youth at Aayarpadi.

The arrested have been identified as P Kamalakannan, 20, and K Nagaraj, 19, of Edaiyarpalayam and B Keerthana, 22, of Mangalakarai.

Police said Kamalakannan had completed his Class XII and worked as a passenger autorickshaw driver. Nagaraj was a daily wage labourer, and Keerthana was working as a teacher in a private school.

Police said that S Sanjay, 23, of Aayarpadi near Karamadai, who was a milkman, was found murdered in his rental house on Tuesday. He had sustained around 12 injuries on his face and neck. His younger sister, who had recently given birth to a child, was staying with his family members. The family had taken a rented house opposite their residence, leaving Sanjay alone in the rental house.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that Sanjay had spread false information about Keerthana. She approached her cousin Kamalakannan and explained the situation. Kamalakannan, along with his close friend Nagaraj, decided to eliminate Sanjay.

On early Tuesday morning, Keerthana informed the duo about Sanjay's whereabouts. They arrived at the spot, entered Sanjay's rented house, assaulted him with deadly weapons, and managed to escape. Sanjay sustained 12 injuries on his body and died.

The Karamadai police registered a murder case and arrested the trio. They were remanded in judicial custody.
