Woman abducts newborn from Salem govt hospital
COIMBATORE: A five-day-old boy was abducted from the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College in Salem by a woman on Friday.
According to police, Vennila, the wife of Thangadurai from Pallipalayam in Namakkal district, gave birth to a baby boy in the hospital’s labour ward on August 5.
On Friday, a woman wearing a mask and dressed in an aqua-coloured sari approached Vennila in the ward. She claimed that the newborn’s eyes appeared yellow and that the baby might have jaundice, requiring immediate testing. Believing her, Vennila handed over the child to the woman. However, after a long time, when the woman did not return with the infant, Vennila became worried.
Vennila and her relatives searched the entire hospital but were unable to locate the woman.
The parents lodged a complaint with Government Headquarters Hospital police. Following this, police examined the hospital’s CCTV footage and conducted an inquiry with the parents.
In addition to the CCTV footage from within the hospital, police teams are working to obtain CCTV images from areas surrounding the hospital to aid in their investigation.
