The corporation has, meanwhile, sacked Karthick, driver of the compactor vehicle, who was appointed on contract basis. A source with the civic body said all the vehicles had to stick to the routes and the number of trips given to them. “It is the duty sanitary supervisors to monitor and ensure the same. It is suspected that the sanitary supervisor and thee driver took money from the commercial establishments to clear garbage.”Commercial establishments, the source said, were considered bulk waste generators as they generate more than 100kg garbage a day. “They have to take care of their waste themselves. The rule is applicable to the commercial establishments in the city as well.” When contacted, Dr M Sharmila, deputy corporation commissioner, said they learnt about the incident through a complaint. “We checked the veracity of the complaint by observing the physical movement of the vehicle. A back-of-the-envelope calculation reveals that the corporation might have faced a loss between 7 lakh and 10 lakh in just one year.”
