Udumalpet honour killing: I will fight until my parents are punished, Kausalya says after Madras high court verdict
COIMBATORE: Expressing her disappointment over the Madras high court’s verdict setting aside the death sentence awarded to five convicts in the Udmalpet
In a Facebook page. Kausalya said her mother Annalakshmi had been acquitted by a lower court and now her father was acquitted by Madras high court besides reducing death sentence of five convicts to life imprisonment. The government's appeal against the acquittal of Annalakshmi and two others were rejected by the high court.
"The entire society had been crippled by the present situation, and the judgement has raised many questions. The state government did not show any interest in pursuing the case. The prosecution was in touch with me during the trial held in the lower court. But the situation changed during the high court trial. However, I haven’t lost my faith in judiciary. I will continue my legal fight. I hope the state government will go for appeal in the Supreme Court," said Kausalya.
"May parents should be punished, and the punishment will do justice for the death of Shankar. I will continue to fight till my Shankar gets justice," said Kausalya.
Kausalya married Shankar in 2015. She belonged to Thevar community, and Shankar was a dalit. Her parents opposed the inter caste marriage.
A gang hacked Shankar to death on March 13, 2016 and Kousalya suffered severe injuries in the attack.
