Two Mudhalvar Padaippagam coworking and learning spaces ready in Coimbatore
COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore corporation plans to inaugurate two Mudhalvar Padaippagam facilities -- coworking and learning spaces -- in the city by next week.
Construction work on the two facilities that began in July 2025 has been completed. Each facility is completed at a cost of Rs 3.36 crore.
One centre is located at Gandhi Maa Nagar in North zone and the other at Jeeva Nagar in Kavundamapalayam in West zone. Each can accommodate 500 people at a time.
The first floor spanning 3,000 square feet will be equipped with free Wi-Fi for co-working space. The ground floor spanning 5,000 square feet will function as a reading space and will house more than 48,000 books mainly for those preparing for various competitive examinations.
These centres are equipped with computers. There is a seminar hall in each centre to accommodate 50-100 people for special sessions or training programmes.
Corporation commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran said, "Only two centres were sanctioned for the city by the state govt, and we have completed work on them. Before the announcement of the upcoming election, we aim to bring it to public use. Otherwise, it will get further delayed despite its completion. If the state plans to sanction more centres, we are ready to execute them in the city. In addition to the two facilities, a library is being constructed in ward 86 under the corporation general fund. It will be completed next month. These initiatives aim to provide accessibility to learning materials to all people."
