Two Coimbatore universities make it to NIRF ranking
COIMBATORE: Two universities in the district,
Bharathiar University has been ranked 13th in the country, under university category. This is the topmost among state arts and science universities. It has also moved a step ahead from last year’s 14th rank. It stood 21st in the overall category.
Bharathiar University vice-chancellor P Kaliraj said they have been assessed well in parameters such as perception, teaching and resources, and research and professional practices.
“The difference in scores between us and those universities which have got preceding ranks is just narrow. We are well within the reach higher positions,” he said.
A total of nine arts and science colleges affiliated to the Bharathiar University have been ranked among top 100 in college category. Among them, PSGR Krishnammal College for Women has been ranked 10th, PSG College of Arts and Science has been ranked 25th, and Sri Krishna Arts and Science College stood 29th.
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham in Coimbatore has been ranked fourth in the country under university category. It stood 13th in the overall category. It has advanced four positions from last year’s eighth rank.
P Venkat Rangan, vice-chancellor of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, in a release said the ranking was a result of ‘academic excellence, outstanding faculty and world-class infrastructure’ of the university.
Among engineering colleges, Amrita School of Engineering, under Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, stood at 20th position. PSG College of Technology was ranked 49, slipping five ranks from last year’s 44.
Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences was ranked 80, compared to last year’s 72, Kumaraguru College of Technology was ranked 82, as compared to last year’s 77 and Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology, was ranked 83, compared to last year’s 97.
