Two die in road accident in Krishnagiri

Krishnagiri: Two people died, and two others were injured following a collision between a car and a goods carrier vehicle near Uthangarai here on Saturday. The deceased have been identified as K Santhiya, 28, and her relative K Jayaraman, 58, both from Manakkolli village in Cuddalore district. Those injured were identified as V Karthik, 32, Santhiya's husband and Velayutham, 66, also from Manakkolli. Preliminary inquiry revealed that the accident took place when they were returning from Hosur by car. Karthik was at the wheel of the vehicle, when a goods carrier van which was en route to Hosur from Tiruvannamalai district, collided with the car. Police said both Santhiya and Jayaraman died on the spot, while the other two were shifted to the government hospital in Uthangarai for treatment. The driver of the goods carrier fled from the spot soon after the accident. M Amanullah, 31, from Tiruvannamalai district, who had hired the van to transport vegetables to his shop, survived the accident. Efforts are on to apprehend the goods van driver. A case has been registered and further probe is on.
