Elderly woman, daughter drown in well in Tirupur
Coimbatore: An elderly woman and her daughter drowned in a well near Alangiyam in Tirupur district, after they accidentally fell into it in the early hours of Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Mayilathal, 87, and her daughter Pushbavalli, 65, both from Uthupalayam village near Alangiyam in Dharapuram.Police said Mayilathal used to get disoriented often due to age related ailments. Around 3am, Pushbavalli woke up and realised that her mother was missing from the house. "When she went looking for her mother, she saw her when she was about to fall into a well. Pushbavalli tried to save her mother, but both fell into the well and drowned as they did not know to swim," said Anandha Krishnan, sub-inspector of police, Alangiyam. The well was located 500 metres away from their house. It was a 50-foot deep well and had water upto a depth of 20-foot, he added. Fire and rescue services personnel from Dharapuram fire station retrieved the bodies from the well and sent them to the Dharapuram government hospital for postmortem. The bodies were later handed over to their family in the afternoon.A case has been registered.
