Toddler, woman injured in stray dog attack in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: A one-and-a-half-year-old boy and a 50-year-old woman were bitten by a stray dog at Kaliyapuram near Thirumalaiyampalayam in Coimbatore district on Thursday night.

The injured persons were admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment.

A stray dog was roaming in the Kaliyapuram area on Thursday around 7.15pm. The dog suddenly bit a one-and-a-half-year-old boy, V Mukhil, who was playing on the street. The boy sustained injuries on the right side of his forehead and was rushed to the CMCH.

The dog ran away from the area and bit a woman, S Muniyammal, 50, from Jallimedu near Thirumalaiyampalayam around 8pm. The incident happened when she was walking on the roadside. She sustained injuries on her right cheek and left forearm and was also admitted to the CMCH.

The boy and the woman were given RIG (rabies immune globulin) injection and ARV (anti-rabies vaccine) at the CMCH.
