Tipsy college students in car go berserk on city streets

Coimbatore: A chaotic situation ensued after four college students raced through the main city roads in a car on Wednesday night under the influence of alcohol. Police nabbed them near Sungam Junction and slapped drunk and drive charges against them.

Anxious residents, who spotted the speeding car around 1.30am, had informed the police control room. “Officers at the Peelamedu police station were directed to check the incident. Though officers from the station tried to stop the car on Avinashi Road, it sped away. Sensing danger, all patrol vehicles in the city were informed about the car. By then, the car had entered Race Course. It went around the Race Course Circle and was about to exit near the Sungam Junction when the Peelamedu police managed to stop it,” a police officer said.

The passengers, who identified themselves as four college students, were found to be in an inebriated condition, the officer said. “They were identified as Harshvardhan of Madukkaraui, Dinesh of Sivananda Colony, Sanjay of Singanallur and Prince of Tirupur,” the officer added. TNN
