Three prisoners booked for assaulting fellow inmate in Coimbatore Central Prison
Coimbatore: The Race Course police have booked three remand prisoners for assaulting a fellow inmate in the Coimbatore Central Prison. The incident happened on April 15 when remand prisoners M Manivannan, 29, V Adithya, 22, and P Kamesh, 24, were being produced before the court through videoconferencing for a scheduled hearing. While waiting for the videoconference, the trio picked up a quarrel with another remand prisoner, identified as Praveen Kumar, due to previous enmity. The verbal spat escalated into a physical assault. When the prison guard on duty intervened to break up the fight, the trio allegedly turned on him. In the ensuing scuffle, a prison officer sustained injuries while attempting to shield the victim.Praveen Kumar, who was injured in the assault, was rushed to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.The Race Course police registered a case against the trio based on a complaint lodged by prison officer Thirumalai.
