COIMBATORE: Three people were killed in separate road accidents in the district on Saturday.

An 81-year-old woman was killed when she was crossing the Mettupalayam – Coimbatore Road at Thoppampatti Pirivu. The deceased was identified as K Lakshmi of Mariamman Kovil Street at Thennamanallur in Thondamuthur block. Lakshmi was on the way to her grandson Prakash’s house at Urumandampalayam from a grocery shop on Saturday morning when a motorcycle hit her. She sustained serious head injuries and died on the way to a hospital. The Thudiyalur police registered a case against bike ride B Sathishkumar, 27, of P&T Colony at Narasimmanaickenpalayam.

A private bus hit Parvathi, 75, wife of Rajabojan of Wellington in Coonoor, when she tried to cross the Coimbatore-Mettupalayam Road near Veerapandi Pirivu on Saturday evening. She was rushed to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH), but was declared brought dead. The Periyanaickenpalayam police registered a case against bus driver S Stephan Vimalraj, 37, of Gandhi Nagar at Mettupalayam.

In the third incident, T Abilash, 31, of Vandiperiyar in Idukki, Kerala, died after his motorcycle hit a tree on the Kottur -Pollachi Road near Suleswaranpatti. Abilash, a cook, was travelling with his friend A Junaith, 27, of Wayanad in Kerala. Abilash sustained serious injuries and was declared brought dead at the Pollachi Government Hospital. Junaith is undergoing treatment.TNN
