Three arrested for smuggling sandalwood

Coimbatore: Forest department officials arrested three people on Saturday for attempting to smuggle 12.8kg of sandalwood from Amaravathy reserve forest in Tirupur forest division.
The arrested people were identified as M Mayilsamy, 37, A Paulraj, 43 and M Sakthivel, 38, from Kanthalloor village in Idukki district of Kerala.
A team of anti-poaching watchers led by assistant conservator of forests Ganesh Ram and range officer Suresh Kumar apprehended the smugglers from Aralipparai area. The officials seized the sandalwood, a saw and a machete from them.
The trio was remanded in judicial custody.
