The campaign on the final day was held at Ukkadam junction where state finance minister O
Panneerselvam addressed the crowd. "Coimbatore is a fort for AIADMK. We want a sweeping win here," he said. As the AIADMK had a strong candidate, he said that candidates of other parties would end up forfeiting their deposit amount.
Later, mayoral candidate P Rajkumar thanked all the ministers, MPs and MLAs who worked for his victory in the election campaign. "The AIADMK government has allotted more than Rs 2,300cr for various development works in Coimbatore city. If I am elected, I will devote my life to serving the people," said Rajkumar. After the campaign came to an end at 5pm, party leaders conducted a meeting at their local office.
On Monday, chief minister J Jayalalithaa had camspaigned in the region, announcing various projects to boost development of the city. Panneerselvam and former minister S P Velumany addressed the public, reiterating that projects had been planned for Coimbatore city alone. "If residents wish to see their city develop, they should vote for the AIADMK candidate," said Panneerselvam.
