Thank You! Senior tax dept official dons driver’s cap

Coimbatore: Wednesday was a special day for V Muruganandham of Vellalore, a driver with the commercial tax department.

As the 60-year-old man was getting ready to leave for the office on his last working day, his boss joint commissioner Sivarasu turned up at his home. After the pleasantries, the family was surprised when they saw the official getting into the driver’s seat, inviting a surprised Muruganandham and wife to take the back seat.

Sivarasu took them to the office through the busy city roads, the same he and Muruganandham had taken for several years. A farewell party was arranged for Muruganandham, who had completed 34 years of service, at the office on Balasundaram Road. He received a celebrity’s treatment at the party.

Sivarasu did not stop there. After the party, he surprised everyone by taking the driver seat again and made the Muruganandams take the rear seat and drove them back to their home.

The official wanted to show his gratitude to the man who had ferried him safely for several years, a senior official, who attended the party, told TOI.
