Tamil Nadu woman, three goons arrested for trying to murder her husband

COIMBATORE: The

Sulur

police in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu have arrested a

woman

and three hired

goons

on Thursday night for attempting to murder her husband. The woman told the police that her husband had an extramarital affair with a woman and spent all the amount on her. So, she decided to finish him off and hired the goons.

The arrested people have been identified as Thilagavathi, 48, wife of Subramaniam of Moolai Veetu Thottam in East Arasur near Sulur, R Velayutha Moorthy, 28, of Avaniyapuram in Madurai, and G Kamalkumar, 21, and V Prabhakaran, 19 of Sivaganga district. The police said Velayutha Moorthy and Kamalkumar were construction workers and Prabhakaran was a college student.

Subramaniam is a money lender. Velayutha Moorthy was working in a construction site near Subramaniam’s house and often visited his home to get loans. Subramaniam developed an extramarital affair with a woman hailing from Virudhunagar district and often gave money to her. However, he had not provided money to his wife, police said quoting her.

Thilagavathi often fought with him and advised him to quit the relationship. However, Subramaniam did not bother about his wife and maintained his relationship with the other woman. So, Thilagavathi decided to finish off her husband. She approached Velayutha Moorthy who demanded Rs 50,000 for murdering Subramaniam.

She arranged the amount. Velayutha Moorthy brought his relative Prabhakaran to execute the murder. On September 3 night, Subramaniam went to an eatery on the Thennampalayam – Annur Road to buy food. The three-member gang came to the hotel and assaulted him with sickles. He suffered severe injuries and fainted on the spot. The gang members thought that Subramanian died. They fled from the crime scene.

The Sulur police rushed to the spot and sent Subramaniam to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). The health condition of Subramanian was said to be stable.

The police suspected that previous enmity in connection with money lending business might be the reason for the murder. When they conducted an inquiry with Thilagavathi, she gave contradictory statements. Later, she confessed to the crime, according to the police.
