The email stated that there was a potential presence of mobile RDX-based IEDs near the Makkal Kural office which is an “attempt to divert attention from critical ongoing issues.” The unknown person added the email ID of a photojournalist working in another vernacular daily.

Following the bomb threat email, the management contacted the Coimbatore city police who dispatched a Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) team. The team carried out searches for more than an hour at the office at SIDCO and declared that it was a hoax bomb threat. The daily has offices at Madurai and Chennai also.

The Sundarapuram police registered a case.

Earlier, similar bomb threat emails were received by private schools, colleges, hospitals and lodges and Coimbatore international airport. However, the city police were not able to trace senders of the emails.
