Sulur bypoll nominations can be filed till Apr 29
The election commission has invited nominations for the May 19 byelection to the Sulur assembly constituency. Candidates can file their papers from April 22 to 29 before the returning officer at the taluk office from 11am to 3pm.
The nominations will be scrutinized on April 30 and candidates can withdraw them before May 2. The commission has appointed S Balakrishnan, assistant commissioner (urban land tax), as returning officer and A Jayaraj, tahsildar, and J Meenakumari, special tahsildar (social security scheme), as assistant returning officers.

Sulur assembly constituency has 1,45,397 male voters, 1,49,743 female voters and 18 others. The constituency has 325 polling stations. Police claimed that they had identified more than 25 polling stations as vulnerable. After the election, the electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be brought to the Government College of Technology (GCT) on Thadagam road and the counting will be held on May 23. TNN
