Sukesh produced in Coimbatore court through video-conferencing
COIMBATORE:
Last week, judicial magistrate RV Rajkumar ordered to produce the accused through video-conferencing following the suspension of seven policemen from Delhi who helped Sukesh to go for shopping in Bengaluru while escorting him from the capital to be produced before the court in Coimbatore on October 21.
The cheating case dates back to the year 2010. Sukesh, of Bhavani Nagar in Bengaluru, contacted B Rajavel, 40, of Ganapathy in Coimbatore, over phone on December 21, 2010. Rajavel was running a furniture shop then and Sukesh introduced himself as Prakash and a joint secretary from Karnataka chief minister’s office.
He told Rajavel that the government had invited tenders to supply furniture and he learned about Rajavel’s furniture shop through website. He also informed Rajavel that the last date to submit the tender was December 21, 2010. Sukesh also requested Rajavel to provide Rs 4.20 lakh to allot the tender to him.
Believing his words, Rajavel had sent the amount in three instalments on the same day. Rajavel realized that he was cheated only when Sukesh went incommunicado. He lodged a complaint with the cybercrime cell of the Coimbatore police who registered a case against Sukesh Balaji and his father Chandrasekhar under sections 420, 170 and 109 of the Indian Penal Code and 66 (d) of the Information Technology Act.
The police arrested Sukesh and his father Chandrasekhar and remanded them in judicial custody. Both of them were lodged at the Coimbatore central prison and later they came out on conditional bail. Meanwhile, the police filed a chargesheet in the case on November 17, 2014.
