‘Soccer Fest’ in Ooty soon

Udhagamandalam: To reignite the waning interest in football, the Nilgiris Documentation Centre (NDC) has proposed to organize a ‘World Cup Soccer Fest’ in Ooty soon.
Events such as photographic exhibition, highlights of the history of the game, honouring of yesteryear players will be part of the fest.
NDC has appealed to the administration and the public to lend photographs, memorabilia, articles and books on Nilgiris football in their personal possession for display at the fest.
According to Dharmalingam Venugopal, director, NDC, football came to the Nilgiri hills with the European soldiers of the Wellington Cantonment in 1850s and spread through the public schools like Lawrence Memorial School and St. Joseph’s College.
