Six arrested for robbing female employees of Namakkal spa
Namakkal: The Namakkal Town police on Wednesday arrested six men on charges of robbing female employees of a beauty parlour spa of Rs 40,000 in cash, gold jewellery and a mobile phone after threatening them posing as cops.
The arrested have been identified as Vimal Basheer, 27, Rajasekaran, 25, 'Thanthonimalai' Yuvaraj, 24, Selvamanickam, 27, of Pasupathipalayam in Karur district and Karthikeyan, 25, and Chanduru, 24, of Chengappalli near Paramathi Velur in Namakkal district.
K Elangovan, 32, originally from Mallur in Salem district, runs an Ayurvedic treatment and beauty parlour spa in a rented space near S K Nagar on the Namakkal-Trichy Road.
Around 3.30pm on April 18, eight people arrived at the spa in a car and on a motorcycle, claiming to be police officers. They threatened the female employees and robbed them of valuables. They also grabbed a hard drive containing CCTV footage and escaped.
The Namakkal town police formed a special team under assistant superintendent of police Akash Joshi and inspector Kabilan, following orders from superintendent of police S Rajesh Kannan.
The team reviewed CCTV footage from a nearby building, which clearly captured their faces and the number plates of the vehicles. An investigation into the vehicle registration numbers identified all the suspects -- four from Karur district, two from Paramathi Velur and two from Tirunelveli district.
Six suspects were arrested from their hideouts in Karur and Paramathi Velur. The police recovered Rs 16,000 in cash, a mobile phone, 1.25 sovereigns of gold jewellery, a car, and a motorcycle from them.
The arrested men were remanded in judicial custody. The police were searching for two suspects from Tirunelveli district.
