Singapore eyes more travellers from secondary cities in India

COIMBATORE:

Singapore Tourism Board

on Wednesday unveiled its plans to focus on secondary cities in India to boost both arrivals and tourism revenue. It conducted a road show for travel agents in the city on Wednesday to create awareness on different packages it offers and ways to sell the destination to the people, who have already travelled to the country once.

G B Srithar,

Singapore

Tourism Board’s regional director incharge of South Asia, Middle East and Africa, said Singapore has been seeing 16%-17% year-on-year growth in terms of tourist arrivals from India. “At least 6.1 lakh Indians had visited Singapore in the first three months of this year alone. However, majority of them were from metros. Hence, we are planning to tap the secondary cities.” Srithar said they want people to know that Singapore was a destination that can suit all wallets, varied interests and passions. “What awaits you is a holiday that is worth the money you spend. People need to know that they can have a chicken

rice

for $3 or $35.”

The board is also promoting more focused forms of tourism with a tagline ‘Passion Made Possible’. “Many people may have already visited Singapore and done a

general

sightseeing trip. But now we are offering customised trips for foodies and people looking to enjoy social life, explore business opportunities, collect items and participate in cultural events and experience the local culture. This is in addition to adventure trips, which can excite people to visit the country again,” Srithar said.

He said they would continue to showcase Singapore as a family, child-friendly and cruise destinations. “Our largest cruise visitors are from India.”
