SI caught taking bribe, jailed

Coimbatore: A sub-inspector of police attached to the Erode government hospital police station was arrested on Friday for accepting a bribe of Rs7,000 from a man involved in a road accident to release his motorcycle. An official source identified the arrested person as M Selvakumar, who has been remanded in judicial custody.According to the source, Selvakumar sought Rs10,000 from R Prakash, a native of Alampalayam in Namakkal district, when he approached the police officer to release his motorcycle that was involved in an accident. “After negotiations, Selvakumar asked him to pay Rs7,000 and received Rs2000 from him a week ago.”Prakash, meanwhile, approached the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti–Corruption sleuths, who gave him chemical-coated currencies to be handed over to the police sub inspector. “We caught Selvakumar while accepting the remaining Rs5,000 from Prakash,” the source said.

CBI arrests revenue inspector of Jammu Cantonment Board for accepting bribe

A revenue inspector of Jammu Cantonment Board has been arrested by the CBI for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1.0 lakh. The accused had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from the complainant to prevent eviction and make an allotment entry in the records. The CBI conducted searches and recovered cash of approximately Rs 6.50 lakh and property documents. The accused will be produced before the court.

Engineer arrested for 50,000 bribe

A deputy engineer from the Mumbai Building Repair and Reconstruction Board has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000. The engineer was accused of demanding the bribe to clear a pending bill for repair work. This arrest comes in the wake of other recent corruption cases, including a FIR against the executive director of the Karnataka Examinations Authority and a revenue inspector caught accepting a bribe in Machilipatnam. In Delhi, the Lieutenant Governor is set to launch an anti-corruption portal, which has drawn criticism for bypassing the elected government.
