Short film on road safety a big hit
Coimbatore: Moira, a
The 40-minute film shows the plight of a youngster, who drove rashly through crowded lanes to catch a movie. He soon meets with an accident and meets Yama, the lord of death, who tells him about drunk driving, overspeeding and even about noise pollution.
Moira is a Greek word meaning fate, said TR Vijayaanand, who wrote and directed it. “I wanted to create a space to discuss about death on a one-to-one basis. I wanted to speak not about the death of an individual, but also about the grieving loved ones. I hope the film will create awareness about road safety rules and a flicker of fear for life,” he said.
The film was shot in Coimbatore and London. The shooting began in 2018. It was a joint initiative of Young Indians and Round Table India 20.
Coimbatore is only second to Chennai when it comes to road accidents, said B Praveen Kumar, chair of Young Indians. “Many of the accidents are a result of ignorance and carelessness,” he said.
The organisers have tied up with Moviebuff to stream Moira on YouTube from Friday.
In a similar event, actor Sivakumar honoured the winners of the short film contest conducted by Uyir – A people's movement against road accidents, at Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science in the city.
The theme of the contest was road safety. Managing trustee of Uyir S Rajasekaran said that 162 entries were received from across the country for the three categories – 30 seconds, one minute and two minutes. The jury selected 10 short films. The winner received Rs 20,000 along with a shield.

People who violate or public disturbance should be fined. This will be revenue generation to the economy, employment creation, public discipline.... All in one step.
