Sexual assault on 5-year-old girl shocks Tirupur residents

on a five-year-old girl has sent shock waves among

residents

at Boyampalayam in the city. The residents and a few political parties have demanded immediate arrest of the unidentified

accused

.


The victim, Nadhiya (name changed), was the younger daughter of a couple who were residing in the first floor of a housing complex at Boyampalayam.

The incident happened on Wednesday night when the girl was sleeping in her house along with her father and elder sister, said a police officer.

“My husband and I are working in different knitwear units. On Wednesday night, I went for night shift, which was unusual, while my husband reached the house around 10.30pm. Since Nadhiya was suffering from fever, I gave her medicine and made her sleep before going to my work to the knitwear unit, which is only a street away,” said the victim’s mother.

“In the early hours of Thursday morning, Nadhiya knocked the door of her neighbour’s house with injuries on her face and some other parts of the body. The neighbour received her and found out that she was bleeding in her genital organ,” said a police officer. Nadhiya had told the neighbour that an unidentified man had lifted her from her house. He had pressed her throat and gagged her. He had taken her to the terrace of the housing complex, the police officer said, quoting the neighbour.

“She fell down when she was climbing down the stairs and sustained injuries on her face. Nadhiya could not explain about what the unidentified man did to her. But she was bleeding, which indicated that she has been sexually assaulted,” said the police officer.

Nadhiya was admitted at the Tirupur government hospital around 4am on Thursday. But it was alleged that proper treatment was not given to her till evening.

The Tirupur north all-woman police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and investigations are on.

“We have conducted inquiries with a few suspects. But we are yet to get a clue as we do not have any CCTV camera footage. Even the victim could not explain anything about identity of the accused,” said the police officer.
