Over last week, many eminent dancers and Carnatic singers have been performing on the Serene premises.
Uma Shankar’s performance had the audience in rapt silence, her melodious voice carrying through the calm night. Thundering applause followed each of her recital.
Earlier in the week, many renowned names in the field of dance and music performed here, including dancer Lavanya Sankar, a student of Guru K J Sarasa and faculty at Arsha Vidya Gurukulam of Sawami Dayananda Sarswathi, Bharatanatyam performances by dancer Anandi Krishnmaurthy and Meenakshi Krishnamurthy, Carnatic music recitals by renowned singers Manasi Prasad, and a mother-daughter duo Nirmala Sundarajan and Subhashini Parthasarthy.
For Revathi Bhasker, a retired project officer and a resident of Serene Centre, the last few days were an occasion for her to immerse herself in dance and music. “All the performers are big celebrities and to think they performed at our doorstep is mindboggling,” she said.
“Though everyone performed well, ‘Kannan Thiruvilayadal’ and ‘Lava Kusa’, dance performances by the students of Tapas Academy for Classical Fine Arts from Chennai was exceptional. Mohiniyattam by P N Krishnakumar also turned out to be a crowd pleaser,” said P C Seethalakshmi, another resident here.
More artists will be performing in the next two days including R Suryaprakash, an eminent Carnatic singer and Covai S V Subramanian, an exponent of Kanjeera and electronic organ.
