‘Sensor Interfacing Techniques’ hackathon held in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: A one-day hackathon on “Sensor Interfacing Techniques” was conducted on the Anna University regional campus in Coimbatore on Thursday under the Naan Mudhalvan scheme of the state govt.

A total of 56 third-year engineering students from 13 colleges in Coimbatore, Erode and Salem districts participated in the event conducted by The Tamil Nadu Smart and Advanced Manufacturing Center (TANSAM), in association with Naan Mudhalvan, to strengthen practical knowledge in embedded systems, IoT technologies, and smart applications, aligning with the needs of Industry 4.0.

Students presented 14 innovative project ideas that focused on real-time applications of sensor interfacing and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). They developed and demonstrated working prototypes using platforms such as ESP32, Raspberry Pi, and a range of sensors, highlighting their technical expertise, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

A panel of experts evaluated the projects based on parameters including innovation, technical feasibility, scalability and overall presentation. Three teams were announced as winners: the first and third prizes were awarded to students from Coimbatore, while the second prize went to a team from Salem. The winners received cash prizes and certificates at the end of the competition.

Organisers said the hackathon served as an effective platform for students to gain hands-on experience and exposure to real-world engineering challenges. They noted that such initiatives play a key role in fostering innovation and skill development among young engineers, helping bridge the gap between academic learning and industrial requirements.
