‘Scrap green corridor project’

COIMBATORE: CPI (Maoist) leader Roopesh raised slogans against the state machinery for ‘oppressing people’ as he was taken to the court of third additional district judge here on Tuesday.

Roopesh, who was lodged at the

Thrissur

Central Prison in Kerala, was escorted to the city by a police team. The court extended his judicial custody to July 31. As he was escorted to the Coimbatore Central Prison from the court, Roopesh raised slogans against the Salem-Chennai eight-lane green corridor project and demanded the state government to withdraw the project immediately.

Meanwhile, his wife Shyna and Maoists Anoop Mathew George, Veeramani and Kannan were produced before the judge through video conferencing system from the Coimbatore Central Prison. The court also extended their judicial custody to July 31.

Roopesh and Shyna will be escorted to

Tirupur

by a team of police and they will be produced before a court there on Wednesday.
