The 72-year-old woman, who had been suffering from tuberculosis for a long time, was admitted to Perundurai Government Medical College four days ago after her health condition worsened. She died in hospital on Sunday morning, and her last rites were performed in her village in the evening.

After the plight of Rangammal and her sister K Rangammal, 75, grabbed media attention, the Trirupur district administration issued orders to give an old age pension of Rs 1,000 to each of them. A Chennai-based school trust donated Rs 46,000 to them to compensate the loss they incurred due to demonetisation.
