Coimbatore: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) seized 150g of synthetic drugs from a coach on the Bengaluru – Kanyakumari express train when it arrived at the Coimbatore railway station on Saturday. They secured a suspect and handed him over to the prohibition enforcement wing (PEW) of the city police.
The arrested was identified as S Mohammed Sinan, 19, from Krishnapuram near Alappuzha in Kerala. He is a first-year student at a college in Kerala.
RPF assistant sub-inspectors of police Devaraj and Sudhakaran were conducting a search on the train when they found the packet and seized the accused. PEW police said Mohammed Sinan had bought the drug in Bengaluru and was smuggling it to Alappuzha through train. He was booked under several sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and section 123 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act.
PEW police inspector MK Saravanan and team produced him before a judicial magistrate on Saturday night. He was remanded in judicial custody and lodged at the Coimbatore central prison.
