Udhagamandalam: Residents of the Elk Hill area here have petitioned the Nilgiris collector seeking action against the owner of a tempo carrying poultry waste that was often found parked in their area.
The petition said the vehicle loaded with chicken waste was noticed by a food safety inspector on October 8, 2017, and its owner was warned not to park the van in residential areas.
“Despite the official’s warning, the vehicle is seen parked daily in our area. When we expressed our objection to the owner, he behaved rudely with us,” A Vincent, a resident of the area told TOI.
Besides causing inconvenience, the residents of about 50 houses fear the stench emanting from the waste might be hazardous to health. “When it rains, the chicken waste from the vehicle gets washed down the road, polluting the area,” said Eric, another resident.
“People who take the path to Balamurugan temple located a few yards away also find it very inconvenient,” said Vincent.
