Quick action helps train passengers get back ‘lost’ luggage

Salem: A train passenger who forgot to take his suitcase when he alighted Karaikkal to Ernakulam Tea Garden Express at Thrissur on Wednesday was able to retrieve his suitcase thanks to the quick work done by

checking staff at the station. The suitcase contained 168g of gold and Rs 14,000 cash.

K Jeyaanandan of Trichy and his family members were travelling on S4 Coach of the train on Thursday. At Thirssur, in an hurry to get from the train, the family forgot to take the unlocked suitcase. After sometime, it occured to them that they missed the suitcase on the train and informed the authorities.

“Immediately we informed an RPF staff, Omanakuttan, at Thrissur, who in turn informed ticket checking staff D R Umamaheswari and batch in-charge of train N Gurunathan,” U Subba Rao, divisional railway manager, told TOI.

The officials retrieved the suitcase from the coach and handed it over to the family within a few hours.
