Probe attack on cadres: Makkal Needhi Maiam leader

COIMBATORE: A day after three functionaries of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) were attacked at a grama sabha meeting at Chinna Thadagam, party’s vice-president R Mahendran on Thursday petitioned district administration officials and the superintendent of police seeking action against those behind the attack.


An argument was going on between people and the officials at the meeting when V Prabhu, Suresh and Babu from Kavundampalayam entered the venue. When one of them proceeded to click a picture, some people attacked them.

Partymen said the Thadagam police refused to file an FIR. Mahendran, who met officials, said it was not a minor incident as the attack happened in broad daylight. “Our men had gone there to talk about the indiscriminate soil mining by unlicensed brick kilns in the area. When they came to know that MNM men were present, some people got agitated, fearing that the issue would come to light and attacked them.”
