central prison were placed under suspension on Tuesday for helping an inmate, who was released on bail, to escape arrest in connection with another case.
A police officer said the Cheyyar police from Kanchipuram district were waiting outside the prison to arrest Vasanth, 35, in connection with a robbery case on Monday. Vasanth was in jail in connection with another robbery case filed in Salem and he was released on bail on that day.
After waiting at the main gate of the prison for some time, the Cheyyar police learnt that Vasanth was released via another gate. Suspicious of the incident, they informed about it to the Salem city deputy commissioner

Madasamy ordered an inquiry. During inquiry, it was found out that principal chief warden

Ramesh Kumar

and chief warden Bhoopathi helped Vasanth to go out of the prison using another gate to avoid being arrested by the Cheyyar police, the officer said.
Based on the inquiry report, prison superintendent Krishnakumar issued an order to place both warden under suspension on Tuesday evening.TNN
