COIMBATORE: The Chettipalayam police in Coimbatore district arrested a couple and two others on Friday on charges of abducting their daughter over an inter-caste marriage. The police took action after the woman, M Pavi Priya, 26, of Pollachi, alleged that her parents and family members were trying to kill her.
The arrested people have been identified as Pavi Priya’s father Murugesan, mother Chellammal, brother Manivasagam and uncle Muruganantham. They were remanded in judicial custody.
According to the police, Pavi Priya, a software developer, developed a relationship with Sethupathy of Pollachi, who is from another caste. When she informed her parents about her love affair and sought their permission for marriage, they refused it due to caste differences. Moreover, they arranged her marriage with another man.
Following this, two months ago, she married Sethupathy and moved to Podanur. After the marriage, Pavi Priya went to her parents' house to reconcile with them. However, they abducted her. She managed to escape and filed a complaint with the Chettipalayam police.
The police registered a case. The arrested people were remanded in judicial custody.
