The mastermind of the gang K Thirunavukkarasu is still absconding.
Meanwhile, police also arrested four more men for attacking Boopalan, elder brother of the victim girl. On Wednesday, group of DMK cadres staged a protest against police in Pollachi, demanding the immediate arrest of Thirunavukkarasu. DMK alleged that there was pressure on police from AIADMK not to arrest Thirunavukkarasu.
Meanwhile, Mahendran submitted a petition to SP Pandiarajan demanding strict action against those involved in the case.
Speaking to reporters, Mahendran said the ruling party was not pressuring police to shield the accused. DMK is purposefully spreading rumours against AIADMK to damage the party’s name among the public in Pollachi, he added.
“Police should arrest the absconding accused immediately. Tension prevails in Pollachi after the case came to light. We will get capital punishment for the accused. Victim women should come forward to lodge complaints before the police. The accused belonging to various political outfits and opposition party is trying to politicize the issue,” Mahendran said.
SP Pandiarajan said already three men were arrested in connection with the case and three special teams have been formed to nab Thirunavukkarasu. He will be arrested soon. “Police did not get any political pressure in connection with the case,” Pandiarajan said.
