Coimbatore: The election flying squad for Kavundampalayam constituency has seized 15.84 lakh from two businessmen while conducting a vehicle check at the Periyanaickenpalayam bus stand early Sunday morning. The duo had collected money from vegetable sellers in Kerala and were returning to Mettupalayam in a car. However, the money was returned after they produced valid documents.

The squad stopped the car in which A K Sait, 64, of Gandhi Maidan in Mettupalayam and R Rajendran, 54, of Indira Nagar at Karamadai were travelling and seized 13,19,820 and 2,65,050, respectively, from them. Rajendran and Sait work in the fresh produce industry. They supplied vegetables to Palakkad, Thrissur, Aluva, Aluppuzha, Ernakulam and Chalakudi areas in Kerala from Mettupalayam and Karamadai in Coimbatore district. They used to visit Kerala once a week to collect money from their buyers. The seized amount was handed over to the returning officer for Kavundampalayam assembly constituency, A Muniyandi. After verification of the documents, the money was returned to the businessman.
