TIRUPUR: A day after a police constable attached to Perumanallur police station knocked down a woman pedestrian in a case of drunken driving, superintendent of police Disha Mittal on Wednesday transferred him to the armed reserve battalion on disciplinary grounds.

On Tuesday evening, constable S Mayilsamy had rammed his bike into a woman pedestrian near Chinthamani bus stand in Avinashi. The woman sustained injuries and was rushed to the Avinashi government hospital.

Soon after the incident, commuters had caught Mayilsamy, who was in an inebriated state, and handed him over to the Avinashi police. An enquiry was subsequently ordered into the issue.

The Avinashi police has submitted a report and on Mayilsamy is also likely to face departmental action.
