On investigation, it was found that they used the ID cards of various people in Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode and Madurai to obtain multiple SIM cards.
They also bought SIM cards by using addresses of people residing in Kerala. They approached members of SHGs, promising to arrange for large bank loans, and got the necessary contact information. Based on Q branch information, the rural police have collected details and obtained complaints from them.
In the first case, S Dhanalakshmi, 35, residing on Paraikadai street near Kottur, lodged a complaint with Kottur police on Friday. In her complaint, she stated that her husband Senthilkumar worked at a mill in Thailand. Shyna had obtained a SIM card using Senthilkumar's documents. In the second case, G Velumani, 36, a daily wage labourer from Boyar Colony near Pollachi, lodged a complaint with Pollachi Taluk police on Saturday, claiming that the photocopy of his voter identity card was misused by Maoist Anoop Mathew George to obtain a SIM card. Only after the five Maoists were arrested last May, did he realize that he had been duped. Pollachi Taluk police registered a case against Anoop Mathew George.
