Pilgrim dies during trek

Coimbatore: A 52-year-old man from Puducherry died of cardiac arrest while trekking the Velliangiri hills on Sunday.Police identified the deceased as R Ramesh of Ariyankuppam, a bachelor. “He reached the foothills of Velliangiri on Saturday night and started trekking to offer prayers at the Shiva temple on the seventh hill. While returning from the temple on Sunday morning, he passed out after experiencing breathing problems on the third hill around 3.30am. Other devotees alerted forest department officials over the phone. A team of anti-poaching watchers brought him to the plains, but doctors declared him dead,” a police officer said.tnn
