COIMBATORE: Police arrested three youths in the city on Sunday in connection with a mobile phone snatching case.

The arrested men were identified as S Dhamodaran, 19, from Dhamu Nagar at Puliyakulam, R Vishnu, 21, from Anbu Nagar at Malumichampatti and S Mohammed Ibrahim, 24, of Kottaimedu.

“Dhamodaran and Vishnu were involved in snatching mobile phones and they passed the stolen phones to Ibrahim, who sold it to the third parties,” said inspector R Prabha Devi, who is attached with the Ramanathapuram police investigation wing.

Dhamodaran and Vishnu snatched a mobile phone from R Bava Nirmal, 21, of Shalom Nagar at Vellalore, on Puliyakulam Road on May 18. Nirmal works at a car service centre at Lakshmi Mills Junction. “Around 7.45pm on May 18, he was returning to the office by walk after delivering a car to a customer. Suddenly, two unidentified men came in a motorcycle and snatched the mobile phone in his hand,” a police officer said.

Based on Nirmal’s complaint, police registered a case under Section 392 (robbery) of the Indian Penal Code on June 26. Subsequently, police managed to trace the phone using its IMEI number and found the accused involved in the robbery.

Police arrested them on Sunday and seized three stolen phones from them.
