Tirupur: The Palladam police arrested a 30-year-old woman on Friday on charges of practising medicine for eight years without proper educational qualification.
C Gokila, who owns a pharmacy at Lakshmi Mill in Palladam, completed only Class XII.
Dr N R Arun Babu, the National Health Mission (NHM) coordinator, Tirupur, said Gokila was running a clinic attached to her pharmacy. “She administered injections and prescribed pills to people who came to the clinic. Many people in the area consulted her as she charged only a nominal fee.”
On November 30, police arrested 41-year-old Krishna Anand Vishwas from West Bengal for running an illegal clinic on Manickapuram Road at Palladam for several years. He too only completed Class XII.
Following the arrest of two quacks, health officials are planning to conduct random inspections of clinics, hospitals and pharmacies in the district.
