Perseverance pays for trio who cracked civil services exam
Coimbatore: Three persons including a woman cleared the civil service examinations from Coimbatore. One of them P Vinoth, 28, son of a plumber, came 717th in the examination.
All the candidates - P Vinoth from Chinnavedampatti, M Giri Prasad, 26, of RS Puram, and K Divya, 29, of Singanallur - had been coached by P Kanagaraj, associate professor of political science, Government Arts College, Coimbatore, who provides free guidance at the higher studies centre on Dr Nanjappa Road. Giri Prasad got the 643th rank, and Divya got the 813th rank.
Vinoth told TOI that his father Ponnusamy is a plumber and his mother Maragatham a homemaker. “This is my fifth attempt and I cleared the civil service examination. I had cleared the mains three times. Meanwhile, I got 83rd rank in the Indian Forest Service and got selected as manager in Reserve Bank of India,” he said.
Vinoth is now an assistant manager in NABARD. “I completed BE (production engineering) from Government College of Technology in Coimbatore where my friends motivated me to focus on the civil service. Now I got job offers from four sectors in the government,” said Vinoth.
Giri Prasad completed B Tech in a deemed university in Coimbatore and worked in Accenture, Bengaluru, for more than four years. “I was not able to clear the civil service exam in my first attempt, but I managed to reach the interview level in the second attempt. Finally I got a ranking in the third attempt. After my duty hours, I used to spend many hours at night preparing for the civil service examination,” said Giri Prasad.
He added that if did does not make it to the IAS cadre, he would appear for the civil service exam again.
Divya, who completed her MBA, said, “This was my fifth attempt and finally I got 813rd ranking in the civil service examination.
